Interactive Noise 010
Taking a break from working on my epistemic humility.
Lucy Gorbalm is Missing by A.V. Dossow – https://avdossow.itch.io/lucy-gorbalm-is-missing
The reference to the cult found footage film Megan Is Missing (Goi, 2011) is unavoidable. It’s a similarly grim experience, even if it never gets as graphic or blunt as the film’s infamous “barrels” finale. A.V. Dossow swaps webcam footage for OS horror, blending low resolution visuals, classical art, and occult vindication. It’s a visually arresting work, with remarkable use of plot twists and interface cul-de-sacs. A good companion piece to the brilliant Vile: Exhumed.
You Are a Failed Murderer by Rambino_Porkchop – https://rambino-porkchop.itch.io/you-are-a-failed-murderer
A Beckettian experience in its narrative absurdity and existential turpitude. Its visual novel interface quickly splinters into multiple threads of cyclical doom, greatly enhanced by the monochromatic red hue and extreme dithering. A great way to avoid sunshine and develop the sudden need to listen to Brainbombs on loop.
Crusty Proto by 3DI70R – https://3di70r.itch.io/crusty-proto
And now for something a little more light-minded. Crusty Proto is an homage to traditional survival horror, breaking apart not only its obsolete charm but the fourth wall, with hilarious results. The ending is chef’s kiss.
Apex-07 by notsospecialgames – https://notsospecialgames.itch.io/apex-07
In space, no one can hear you dissociate. This low-poly claustrophobia simulator offers some great narrative turns while fully exploiting its PSX-style visual limitations, blending cold steel with tumorous filth.
Self Portrait (Interior) by Theo Triantafyllidis – https://theotrian.itch.io/self-portrait-interior
Words can’t convey the bizarro experience that awaits you. Conceptually, the first thing that came to mind was consensual vorarephilia, the artist transposing his own head, and its opening, into an access point to his guts. I always knew the interior of creators was made of shoddy wooden platforms patrolled by baton-swinging constipation.
I Tried to Call You by Yin – https://yin0abv.itch.io/i-tried-to-call-you
Incredible concept: traverse a noisy suburbia haunted by insectoid succubi, with an old Nokia as your sole protection. Calling the various numbers and unlocking their effects is extremely satisfying.
Unit05 by SeriousDaniel – https://danieloschepkov.itch.io/unit05
First: the soundtrack is incredible, a minimal rumbling synth loop that perfectly complements the transhuman body horror displayed in the labcore setting of Unit05. A short experience that feeds back into recursive flesh failure.
