Interactive Noise 003
Mech Punk by Mr. Pink - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1882550/MECH_PUNK/
I should be infuriated. I bought this game for around $20 right before it was seemingly abandoned by its creator, who now sells this slop for a dollar. But how much noisier could it be? This is a brilliant example of a creative process going haywire and a close-range shotgun blast to any notion of UI. Every aspect technically works but is on the verge of crashing down with the most insane saturation I ever witnessed. It succeeds in making you panic in the claustrophobia of the weaponized tin can. This should be taught in game design curriculum.
Discomfort Zone by alex tomkow - https://alextomkow.itch.io/discomfort-zone
A visceral experience of depression and dysphoria manifested through Bitsy of all canvas. Beyond words.
Mouthole by Anything Nose Productions - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2777740/MOUTHOLE/
Absurdist buccal nightmare. The idea of the main human structure's orifice being on a horizon of falling out and being penetrable as a kind of limitless cosmic fold gels together the various potentials. Potentials are all calculated in a parody of personal datafication and hygiene, leading to weirder and weirder obliteration by a game's world (and its creators) that insists on its absurdity as its first essence.
StarOS by Josyan -https://store.steampowered.com/app/2434760/StarOS/
Atari interface horror, the underlying narrative unfolding through the achievement notification. I thoroughly enjoyed the lack of explanations and the crypto satanic lure.
CODA by Fin Deevy - https://store.steampowered.com/app/2420390/CODA/
Various narratives of self-discovery, annihilative and productive, are intertwined in a mesmerizing monochrome surreal art museum. The lack of direction is the point, drowning progress points in abstract spatial sculpture, breaking scopes and scales.
BABBDI by Sirius and Léonard Lemaître -https://store.steampowered.com/app/2240530/BABBDI/
I don't think I ever played an objectives-driven walking simulator of such a maximalist scale. The urbanism and architecture of the city of Babbdi are mesmerizing, filled with nooks and crannies in which to get lost, pain to witness, but also relentless humor and joy. Brutalism meets the slapstick of misery and oozes through all the textures.
Stasis: Bone Totem by The BROTHERHOOD -https://store.steampowered.com/app/1426010/STASIS_BONE_TOTEM/
Isometric point-and-click adventure in the tradition of Sanitarium but overdosing on nihilistic sci-fi horror. The lore developed here is mind-bending. It's traditional in its form, but the world proposed violates all notions of ethics, proposing speculation of biohorror technological development animated by a gnosis of AI future shock. Also, the writing is excellent. Highly recommended.
Devil Devour Alive DX by Virtua Worlds, LLC -https://store.steampowered.com/app/1938690/DEVIL_DEVOUR_ALIVE_DX/
I always thought the intro of Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller was the best part of the game. Here was my chance to play a game fully dedicated to emulating it. And it delivered.
